Times have certainly changed since merely putting color on walls. Now, there are many techniques known to create artistic rooms and accents walls accentuating color and texture. These are a few examples of:  Fresco, Suede Effect, and Striping.

Furniture Refinishing has become very popular in the last few years. Times have been tight, and as a result, customers have been opting to refinish old or run-down furniture.  It is often the case, rather than buying new.

Some customers decide to reapply finishes on their existing wood pieces. Others, just decide to paint what is already treated. Then there is the occasional flip-side, where the old existing paint is  chemically stripped. This, then,  gives the customer the choice to have it stained and then coated with a protective varnish.

Above, is an example of an armoire which hadn’t been treated in years. Our clients decided to keep the door, as is, but then wanted to paint the interior a bold color,
and the exterior a high-gloss neutral color.

Cute and colorful baby rooms have been all the rage this new millennium.  Yet, traditional pink, yellow, and blue colors have withstood the test of time. Try breaking up these pastels up with a glossy white wainscoting, as seen in first photograph, below.

Often times, the interior colors colors applied by A Splash of Color, have already been chosen by our clients. Yet, most commonly, they are selected during one of our free color consultations.  See, Color Consultations, in Services.

Once these wall colors are hand-selected, small samples of each color are then purchased and painted onto the walls. When second-coats of these samples are applied and fully dry, only then, are the preferred hues chosen.

Right sheen’s for the job are then assessed, and we try our best to apply as many coats as needed, to assure bright, bold, and long-lasting color.

Our exterior projects have ranged from spec homes to remodels to refinishing historic fascia. Exterior painting is done between  April and October. There are some exceptions when the weather cooperates in the winter months. We are careful to apply latex paints in temperatures above 50 degrees, so that our exterior painting is always guaranteed.

We also treat doors, garages, porches, decks, and wood trim. Either with stain and a varnish, or with simply a polyurethane. All products used are very durable and meant to withstand snow and sun exposure for 5-7 years.

The number-one complaint from our customers, is that there are too many colors out there for them to choose from. And, it does seem daunting where there are over tens of thousands of hues to choose from.  Often, a company/manufacturer will put thousands of colors, in just one color deck. It can feel overwhelming, at times. That is why we do our best to make this part of painting, easy and painless.

When all of these things are taken into account, we then work with a few decks at a time. Three hues of each color are chosen.  Next, samples of these hues are purchased, and painted as squares on designated walls. When the second-coats are applied and fully dry, only then, are the preferred hues chosen. Making all of your color choices, a little easier.
